The qualifying period for the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials began today.
And after turning in a time of 8:14.40 to win the women’s 800m freestyle at the 2018 Winter National Championships, Katie Ledecky officially became the first swimmer to attain a Trials cut.
In all, eight American swimmers in the women’s 800 free qualified for Trials today at Winter Nationals.
In addition to Ledecky, those swimming under the qualifying time of 8:48.09 were:
- Ashley Twichell, 8:28.16
- Erica Sullivan, 8:29.02
- Kaersten Meitz, 8:37.11
- Chase Travis, 8:38.84
- Emma Weyant, 8:41.30
- Paige McKenna, 8:46.76
- Summer Smith, 8:47.20
