IRVINE, Calif. – Six titles were awarded to swimming’s future stars on Tuesday to open the 2018 Speedo Junior National Championships at William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Center.
Fourteen-year-old Justina Kozan (Diamond Bar, Calif./Brea Aquatics) kicked the meet off with a victory in the women’s 200-meter butterfly in 2:10.83, followed by a win from Harry Homans (Barrington, R.I./Bluefish Swim Club) in the men’s 200m fly in 2:00.29.
The 100m breaststroke titles went to Kaitlyn Dobler (Beaverton, Ore./The Dolphins Portland Swimming) and 15-year-old Joshua Matheny (Pittsburgh, Pa./Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics) in 1:08.90 and 1:01.06, respectively.
A member of the open water National Junior Team, Kensey McMahon (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles School Sharks), won the women’s 800m freestyle title in 8:37.45. Ivan Puskovitch (West Chester, Pa./Episcopal Academy Aquatic Club) took the men’s 1500m free in 15:31.28 after winning the open water 7.5-kilometer national title earlier this year.
The meet continues through Saturday with 9 a.m. PDT prelims and 6 p.m. PDT finals. A live webcast of the entire competition is available at usaswimming.org.
