COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Arguably the most important domestic swimming competition ahead of the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming opens next week, as USA Swimming’s 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships will be held July 25-29 at the William Woollett, Jr. Aquatic Center in Irvine, California.
The nation’s top swimmers will be competing for national titles, as well as spots on the United States’ roster for this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships and the 2019 FINA World Championships.
Among the No. 1-ranked individual event qualifiers for Phillips 66 Nationals are 2016 Olympic individual champions Lilly King (Evansville, Ind./Indiana University), Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md./Stanford Swimming), Simone Manuel (Sugar Land, Texas/Stanford Swimming) and Ryan Murphy (Jacksonville, Fla./California Aquatics), as well as 2017 individual world champions Caeleb Dressel (Green Cove Springs, Fla./Bolles School Sharks) and Chase Kalisz (Bel Air, Md./Athens Bulldog Swim Club).
More than 30 Olympic medalists are among the 1,300-plus qualifiers for Phillips 66 Nationals. Amongst qualified swimmers, Olympic gold medalists Nathan Adrian (Bremerton, Wash./California Aquatics) and Missy Franklin (Centennial, Colo./Athens Bulldog Swim Club) lead with way with 15 career long-course national titles each.
With an enhanced fan zone, more interactive sponsor activations, exclusive seating areas and more, there are more reasons than ever to secure a spot to see the world’s top swimming team in action ahead of this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships. Tickets have been selling quickly, and fans are encouraged to purchase all-session and single-session tickets in advance at sftest.usaswimming.org/p66nats.
The full broadcast/webcast schedule is now available. Daily prelims begin at 9 a.m. PDT, followed by nightly finals at 6 p.m. PDT, and each day will feature diverse food and beverage options, exclusive sponsor giveaways and autograph sessions with our nation’s most decorated swimmers. A unique area at the turn end of the pool will be reserved for Southern California LSC swim clubs with special giveaways and National Team appearances each night.
This meet serves as the qualifier for the U.S. team in the pool competition at the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, which run from Aug. 9-12 in Tokyo. The winner of each Olympic event will claim an automatic spot on the roster, and a complete team selection procedure is outlined at usaswimming.org.
The combined results of the Phillips 66 National Championships and the Pan Pacific Championships will determine the roster for the 2019 FINA World Championships.
NBC Sports will provide extensive daily broadcast coverage of Phillips 66 Nationals across NBC, NBC Sports Network and the Olympic Channel. USA Swimming will produce Deck Pass Live segments following each prelim and finals session and will debut a unique preview show live from the expanded fan zone. The shows will stream free of charge onsftest.usaswimming.org and via Facebook Live.
The 2018 Phillips 66 National Championships is part of the 2018 Team USA Summer Champions Series, presented by Xfinity. The champions series showcases numerous Olympic sports throughout the season, highlighting the year-round quest of Team USA athletes to compete at the Olympic Games.
