MJ Truex, Senior Director, Education & Programs
MJ has been with USA Swimming since 2005, holding various roles within both the National Team and Sport Development Divisions. MJ spent her first quad working as part of National Team’s High-Performance Services where she worked closely with the National Team athletes and coaches. MJ moved to Sport Development after the 2008 Beijing Games and served as a Sports Performance Consultant for the next quad. She visited numerous teams across the country delivering “wet side” educational information (nutrition, technique, race stats, goal setting, etc.). In 2012 MJ transitioned into the role that put her on the Education and Programming path where she took over managing various programs and educational resources such as online education, camps, video projects, website educational delivery, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
As Senior Director of Education & Programs, the main areas MJ oversees is Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and USA Swimming’s educational properties including coach, athlete, and parent education.
Before coming to USA Swimming, MJ worked in the New York City education system with a Head Start program before becoming a head coach on the collegiate level for seven seasons. She has coached part time for a local club team for the past 15 years in Colorado Springs. MJ is a graduate of New York University where she completed both her undergraduate and postgraduate work. After moving to Colorado Springs, she continued to pursue additional educational credits at CSU Pueblo. She resides in Colorado Springs with her husband, three kids, and Bernedoodle.

Dr. Shaun M. Anderson, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Manager
Dr. Anderson joined the USA Swimming staff in 2009 following a coaching career that included assistant coaching positions at Old Dominion University, Tidewater Aquatics Club and Booker T. Washington HS in Norfolk, VA. In addition to his role with USA Swimming Dr. Anderson serves as an assistant professor in the department of Health, Physical Education & Exercise Science at Norfolk State University.
Prior to joining USA Swimming Anderson also championed numerous aquatic programs, swim lessons, water safety seminars, research projects, camps and clinics throughout the country as well as abroad including co-founding the non-profit Diversity in Aquatics and establishing International Water Safety Day. In recognition of his efforts Dr. Anderson became part of the permanent congressional record when he was recognized in congress for these accomplishments.
Dr. Anderson received a B.S. in Kinesiology from Penn State University during which time he was a four-year member of the swim team and three-year member of the track team. Anderson continued his education at California State University, Long Beach where he received his MBA in Finance and Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership from University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

Ashanée Player, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator
Ashanée is the newest addition to the USA Swimming Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team. Prior to, she worked as a Compliance Intern at Kent State University in Kent, OH for over a year. Her D&I experience started when she was chosen as the D&I intern with the PGA of America. There, she aided the D&I team in education, workforce diversification, community engagement, and supplier inclusion.
In her role now, Ashanée focuses on the education to teach USA Swimming members and volunteers the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion within their own LSCs. She also is responsible for website updates regarding DEI and working with volunteers to further the mission of creating a culture of inclusion and opportunity for all. Ashaneé came to USA Swimming immediately following her graduation from Kent State University, where she studied Sports Administration.
