| Saturday, January 14, 2017Team USA’s 2016 Olympians picked up where they left off last year, winning three events Friday in the opening session of the 2017 arena Pro Swim Series at Austin at the University of Texas’ Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
Olympic silver medalist Josh Prenot (Santa Maria, Calif/California Aquatics) earned the win in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke in 2 minutes, 11.15 seconds, three-time Olympian Amanda Weir (Lawrenceville, Ga./SwimAtlanta) took the women’s 100m free in 54.60 and fellow medalist Melanie Margalis (Clearwater, Fla./ St. Petersburg Aquatics) earned the win in the women’s 200m breast in 2:26.14 before coming back to take third in the 400m free later in the session.
Fellow National Team members Sarah Gibson (San Antonio, Texas/Texas A&M) and Ashley Twichell (Fayetteville, N.Y./North Carolina Aquatic Club) also took victories in the women’s 100m fly in 58.94 and the women’s 400m free in 4:08.99, respectively.
Japanese Olympians also picked up a pair of victories on the night, as Shinri Shioura won the men’s 100m free in 49.16 and Daiya Seto took the men’s 100m fly in 52.67. Denmark’s Anton Ipsen won the men’s 400m free in 3:49.59.
Television coverage from Austin will air live on NBC Sports Network on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. All three finals session will also be streamed via NBC Sports, while a live webcast of the entire meet also will be available atsftest.usaswimming.org.
