MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The 2016 Speedo Junior National Championships concluded Friday night at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center. Michael Andrew (Lawrence, Kan.) finished the meet with seven individual gold medals.
Andrew won the men’s 200m IM with a time of 2:01.70. Sam Iida (Glenview, Ill.) finished second with a time of 2:03.34, while Brennan Pastorek (Savannah, Ga.) placed third in 2:03.39.
Andrew went on to claim the 50m free title with a time of 22.30. Alberto Mestre (Pottstown, Penn.) took silver in 22.95, while Drew Kibler (Carmel, Ind.) took third in 23.02.
Michael Brinegar (Columbus, Ind.) took home the gold in the men’s 800m free with a time of 8:04.70. Aaron Apel (Scottsdale, Ariz.) followed closely with a time of 8:04.75, and Simon Lamar (Sonora, Calif.) claimed third place with a time of 8:07.91.
Sammi Burchill (Carmel, Ind.) dropped over three seconds from her preliminary swim to take home the gold in the women’s 200m IM in 2:15.39. Zoe Bartel (Fort Collins, Colo.) took second in 2:16.17, and Regan Smith (Lakeville, Minn.) picked up third with a 2:16.28.
Joy Field (Magnolia, Texas) earned gold in the women’s 1500m free in 16:25.54. Erica Sullivan (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Madelyn Donohoe (Annadale, Va.) followed with times of 16:32.23 and 16:36.30, respectively.
Anya Goeders (Lowell, Ind.) won the women’s 50m free in a time of 25.13. Kylee Alons (Fort Collins, Colo.) took second in 25.84, and Miki Dahlke (Mill Valley, Calif.) placed third with a 25.97.
Fort Collins’ Bayley Stewart, Zoe Bartel, Coleen Gillilan and Kylee Alons captured the women’s 4x100m medley relay with a time of meet record time of 4:08.39. King Aquatic Club’s Thomas Anderson, Robert Hughes, Micah Oh and Kevin Dang captured the men’s 4x100m medley relay in a time of 3:47.55.
