Dwyer, Ledecky Take Overall Arena Pro Swim Series Title

 | Monday, June 6, 2016

With 53 and 55 points, respectively, Conor Dwyer (Winnetka, Ill./Trojan Swim Club) and Katie Ledecky (Bethesda, Md./Nation’s Capital Swim Club) secured the 2015-16 Arena Pro Swim Series titles. For the third straight year, Dwyer will earn a $10,000 series championship bonus from USA Swimming. Ledecky being an amateur athlete will not accept the prize money or BMW. The BMW will default to the second place professional athlete, Maya DiRado (Santa Rosa, Calif./Stanford Swimming).

“It’s really fun to win the BMW, which is such a nice car, and the season-long Pro Swim Series points title for the third year in a row,” said Dwyer. “My main focus has been setting up a plan that best prepares me for Olympic Trials in Omaha. It’s nice to see the hard work pay off.”

As the top U.S. professional finishers in the series, Dwyer and DiRado earned a one-year lease for a BMW X1 courtesy of USA Swimming partner BMW. Only U.S. athletes who meet the outlined requirements are eligible to win the BMW lease.

"I'm so excited to win the lease of the BMW especially after partnering with them this past year,” said Dirado. “I've appreciated their support and their commitment to performance. Perhaps part of my success at the pro swim series this year was due to the fact that I've loved my BMW so much I had to have more time in it."

Dwyer won eight events, while Ledecky won a total of 10 races over the course of the series. DiRado placed first in seven events en route to a total of 42 points. Participants were awarded points in each individual Olympic event throughout the duration of the Series (Five points for first, three for second, one point for third place).
